Built to see what others overlook.

We exist because one of the most economically consequential consumer populations in America is still treated as a demographic afterthought: under-researched, over-generalized, and too often designed around rather than designed for.

CITA brings specialized intelligence, cultural context, and strategic rigor to a market that deserves a much more precise read.

A research and strategy practice built exclusively around U.S. 50+ consumers.

OUR MISSION

CITA researches the realities of modern longevity and equips brands and organizations to respond with greater relevance. Through research and strategy, we help create products, services, experiences, and messages that reflect how people are actually living longer lives.

Better understanding creates better decisions. Better decisions create more possibilities.

The longer life is already here. What we are working on is everything that becomes possible inside it.

Greater possibilities for longer lives.

WHAT WE BELIEVE

People do not stop becoming at 50.

They start businesses at 58. Fall in love at 71. Go back to school. Run companies. Change careers. Care for parents and grandchildren. Reinvent routines, priorities, relationships, and themselves.

Age brings context: experience, responsibilities, resources, constraints, memories, ambitions. It can shape behavior without defining it.

The problem begins when organizations use age as shorthand for sameness, decline, or irrelevance. Too much of what has been designed for adults 50+ still reflects someone they have no intention of becoming.

That gap is a failure of imagination, and an expensive one. CITA replaces assumption with evidence and age bias with a more accurate view of the opportunity.

Longer lives should expand what is possible, not narrow it.

We believe age is an asset.

OUR NAME

Named for one woman, who inspired another.

Cita was Shannon Colangelo's grandmother. She treated the second half of her life as the best part of it.

She traveled, entertained, tried new things, stayed curious, and held the attention of every room she walked into at an age when her generation was often expected to go quiet. She never did.

Shannon founded CITA Collective in her honor, around a question that now sits behind the work:

Would our work have recognized her?

The name is a tribute. It is also a standard. Does the research see the complexity? Does the strategy respect the agency? Does the opportunity reflect how people are actually living?

THE FOUNDER

Shannon Colangelo, founder and chief strategist of CITA Collective.

Shannon Colangelo

Founder & Chief Strategist

Shannon is a senior brand and strategy leader with more than two decades of experience turning consumer understanding into clear business, brand, and growth strategy.

Her work has helped guide organizations including Samsung, Southwest Airlines, Metro by T-Mobile, Nationwide, Wells Fargo, MD Anderson Cancer Center, UCHealth, and Children's Health, alongside extensive experience across healthcare, financial services, telecom, retail, CPG, transportation, consumer technology, and cultural marketing.

That breadth is the point. It allows Shannon to see across category boundaries, connect patterns that can be easy to miss from inside a single industry, and bring a question in healthcare into conversation with something learned in retail, technology, or culture.

CITA brings that cross-category perspective to one specialized question: what becomes possible when organizations understand consumers over 50 more accurately?

HOW WE WORK

Boutique attention. Institutional rigor.

CITA is intentionally lean: senior strategic leadership at the center, specialist expertise around it.

Every engagement stays senior-led from the initial question through interpretation and recommendation. The person who helps frame the problem remains close enough to the work to see when the answer changes.

Research fieldwork and specialist execution are delivered with trusted partners under CITA's research design, analytical direction, and strategic leadership.

The model keeps the thinking senior and the expertise specialized, without the layers of a much larger firm.
